Last minute run gives McLaren’s Hamilton his first pole of the season at Montreal, Canada. Hamilton who was leading the standings for much of the time was pipped to third just 5 minutes left for the session to end with the Red Bulls getting into a 1-2 with Webber seemingly poised to clinch pole once again. But the last minute run gave the Englishman his first pole of the season on the qualifying session which was dominated by him.
The Red Bulls who saw their run at the pole positions end will not be much disappointed with their Webber sharing the front row and Vettel staring the second row. Ferrari‘s Alonso will be sharing the second row while Button in fifth and Force India’s Liuzzi in sixth finish off the third row. Massa qualified ahead of Kubica while Sutil in ninth and Rosberg round off the top 10.
Schumacher, a record seven-time winner at this track will start only 13th behind the two Williams cars of Barrichello and Hulkenberg. Schumacher had been struggling to get going from the start of the session and was finally dumped out in the 2nd period. He struggled with pace and ended with a time of 1:16.492 while the leader Hamilton set a time of 1:15.105.
The third qualifying session saw all the drivers opting the softer ones and was the most exciting one with the lead keeping on changing every time a big names comes out on the track. The top runners showed a major change in the qualifying times with cutting down the times with a reasonable margin in Q3.
There was not much trouble regarding the tyres or it seemed so as it was in the earlier practice sessions the reason mostly being the dryness of the track.
Chandhok was struggling from the start and could manage only three laps with a very poor time of 1:27.757.
Overall the session went of very well without any major incidents and any major hiccups. Just a few teams still are having some problems notably the Mercedes and hopefully Chandhok sorts out his problem soon so that he can get going.
With heavy rains predicted on Sunday we can expect some action!!
