Formula 1 racing will resume next week with the German GP which is scheduled to take place at Nurbergring. This time around there are plenty of German drivers racing this year which includes legendary Schumacher, current champion Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg, Adrian Sutil and may others as well.
Apart from all these drivers there is one thing more which is the all ‘German dream team’ of Mercedes. The legendary German manufacturer Mercedes is competing in its home race with other two German drivers legendary and multiple time world champion Michael Schumacher and one of the most talented driver on the Formula 1 grid Nico Rosberg.
Let’s have a look at their performances in their home races how they have performed and who stands where.
Mercedes GP PETRONAS
The home team is racing in its home grand prix with the home drivers what else you need to make you your weekend perfect. Though Mercedes is not the strongest team to challenge for the race win but they can challenge for a podium position. They have come close to achieve it with Michael at the Canadian GP but didn’t able to do so.
The legendary Mercedes team had made their debut in 1954 but they have not won any constructors title from then on however, they have won two driver’s title in that period. Mercedes have won 9 races and taken 8 pole positions with 9 fastest laps. Mercedes left formula 1 in 1955 but continued in the sport as an engine supplier and also with the partnership like silver arrows and Brawn GP.
However, they become a Formula 1 team after a long time in 2010 after overtaking Brawn GP. They signed Nico Rosberg and a comeback legend Michael Schumacher. Mercedes didn’t prove to be competitive as they were before. However, Nico achieved some podium finishes in the season with not so competitive Mercedes and Michael’s comeback was the disappointing as he didn’t able to achieve any podium.
Mercedes finished their comeback season on fourth place ahead of Renault with 214 points. In the current season Mercedes is not upto speed but they want to turn their fortunes. They would like it to turn in their home grand prix and make it a memorable one.
Michael Schumacher
The comeback man Michael Schumacher didn’t have a great come back and he has struggled badly since he has made a comeback. The best finish for him till date after his comeback is in the Canadian GP where he finished on 4th. The multiple time world champion really want to prove his point and with his home grand prix is scheduled next week it is the best place for him to show why is a seven time world champion.
Michael is among the three German drivers which have won German GP after 1952. He has won this event on four occasions in 1995, 2002, 2004, 2006. He will be looking to increase his tally to five after this weekend.
Nico Rosberg
One of the most talented drivers in the Formula 1 grid the ‘young Schumacher’ Nico Rosberg. Rosberg has extracted most from his Mercedes in this and in the previous season. He will be looking to make its home race count this time around even with not so competitive car.
Rosberg has out qualified and out raced his team mate Michael Schumacher in most races. In Malaysia, Rosberg achieved his first front row grid start, having qualified second in a qualifying session disrupted by rain and he eventually finished third in the race. This was Rosberg’s first podium place in the Mercedes team.
Rosberg again put his car onto the podium at the Chinese grand prix which was his second successive podium finish with the Mercedes team. Rosberg finished 16 of the season’s 19 races, of which 15 were points-scoring finishes which was an impressive result for the young German. He scored 142 points in that season and was placed 6th in the championship.
Rosberg has not scored any podium in this season and he will be looking to get in its home showdown.
