In what comes as a shocking blow to Formula One fans, FIA chief Bernie Ecclestone has said that the game will bid goodbye to Monza Circuit, one of the most famous and historic racing tracks of all time.
According to Ecclestone, Monza had signed a six-year deal in 2010 to host the Italian Grand Prix. They may not get the opportunity to host the event in the future when their contract expires in 2016 as FIA has no intention of renewing the contract.
"I don't think we'll do another contract, the old one was a disaster for us from a commercial point of view. After 2016, bye bye…," said Ecclestone in an interview to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Monza considered to be one of the fastest tracks always had a history associated with it as it first hosted a race in 1922, and went on to become one of the most loved circuits in the world. Monza has also hosted every Italian Grand Prix since 1950, except in 1980 when the event was held at Imola.
