Formula One: Williams disappointed with Bottas false dawn

Williams deputy team principal Claire Williams expressed the feelings of many fans and neutrals on Sunday when she admitted that rookie Valtteri Bottas‘s 14th placed finish was a disappointment.

The 23-year-old Finn had taken third place on the grid in Saturday’s rain-hit qualifying session to raise hopes of the British team scoring their first points of the season.

Williams said: “The result was not what we wanted, but I don’t think we ever thought we would finish where we started, but we are disappointed not to get any points.

“We are now at race seven without any points and that’s the reality.

“After yesterday, which was so exciting for the team, I think we thought we could get eighth or ninth, so we are disappointed.

“Hopefully things will be better at Silverstone. We are celebrating our 600th race there — although our 600th race is in Germany — because we have had so many happy memories there.

“We are working really hard to make sure we have some upgraded parts for Silverstone but the track is a very difficult one.”
