Giving double points in the last race would be absurd, insists Sebastian Vettel

Reigning Formula One Champion Sebastian Vettel has labeled the proposal to award double points in the final race of next season as an absurd suggestion.

The German is the first driver to speak out against the FIA’s announcement that the winner of the last race of 2014 season at Abu Dhabi will be awarded with 50 points to prolong the title race.

“This is absurd and punishes those who have worked hard for a whole season. You can hardly imagine that on the last match of the Bundesliga season, (soccer) matches are suddenly worth twice as many points. I value the old traditions in Formula One and don’t understand this rule,” Vettel told Germany’s Bild newspaper.

“Drivers, fans and experts are horrified,” he added.

Vettel dominated last season and won the championship with races to spare but his concern can’t be seen as a fear of losing dominations since only three times in the past two decades would the champion change if the rule was implemented.

Meanwhile, Red Bull Advisor Helmut Marko has said that the FIA is planning to give double points for the last four races instead of only one.
