The start of the Belgium grand prix saw a horrific crash at the La Source hairpin and the Stewards have held Grosjean responsible for dangerous driving and have given him one race ban which means Jerome D Ambrosio will be stepping in for Grosjean in Monza.
Speaking about the crash here is what Grosjean had to say:
“[I had] a very good start and then boom – it was the end of the race. I haven’t seen the images and I need to see them to have any point of view,” he said.
“But the main thing is that everybody is OK. That is the most important for me.”
Here is what the FIA Stewards had to say about Grosjean:
The FIA Stewards decided that Grosjean had committed an “extremely serious breach of the regulations which had the potential to cause injury to others. It eliminated leading championship contenders from the race. The stewards note the team conceded the action of the driver was an extremely serious mistake and an error of judgement. Neither the team nor the driver made any submission in mitigation of penalty.”
Analysing the Crash:
As the five red lights went out Grosjean started to move rightwards to take a defensive line into the La Source Hairpin. But as Grosjean moved rightwards he touched the left front wheel of Hamilton causing Hamilton to lose control of his Mclaren which then tailgated the Ferrari and Sauber of Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez.
