Two-time world champion Mika Hakkinen believes that fellow compatriot Kimi Raikkonen‘s move to Red Bull would be ‘logical’.
Raikkonen has long been linked with a move to the defending champions, but, as always, he’s been playing the silent game. However, he openly spoke about having ‘two offers’ for next season. Speculations point in the direction of Red Bull.
Hakkinen believes that a move to Red Bull would be the perfect next step for Raikkonen.
“We can see that Red Bull’s situation is quite a lot stronger,” the 44-year-old was quoted by Finnish broadcaster MTV3.
“If there is a place open there, then yes, I think it would be quite logical,” added Hakkinen.
But the decision for Raikkonen isn’t a simple one. Yes, Red Bull have won 3 world titles in a row but next year is a game-changer with the introduction of newer engines and possible a new tyre supplier meaning they’ll have to start from scratch.
“Of course, they have won a number of years in a row, but next year the rules are changing,” he told MTV3. “It’s a bit of a lottery who will make a good car and who will not.”
