Hamilton to decide over future during summer break

GPNow

Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he will decide over his Formula 1 future during the summer break. The big question is with which team he will race after his contract with McLaren expires as the end of this season. While McLaren Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh has already given hints that he would like to keep the driver with the team, Hamilton seems in doubt over a contract extension. While he used to say he was keen to stay with the team for a long period of time, their recent dip in performance made the Brit change his certainty.

Hamilton: “To be honest, you have to base your decisions on much, much longer than such a short period of time. Only half a year cannot decide six years of partnership, or actually 13 years of partnership. We have not sat down and discussed anything yet but when we have the summer break it would be nice to get something in place. That would be a time when we can be more relaxed and make the most sensible decision for the future.”

The driver struggles with the choice between his loyalty towards McLaren or increasing his chances of success. He explained: “There are lots of things to take into account. These people have supported me; these are the people that got me into Formula 1. But, you know, I want to win. I am not that young anymore, so I want to make sure that whatever I do I make the right decision so I can maximize my career. I just need to make sure that I am winning. That is what I exist for; that is what I train and work for every day.”
