Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner remains coy over Mark Webber‘s future in Red Bull.
From the start of the season, many have cast their doubts about Webber’s future. Many envisage Kimi Raikkonen to replace the Australian after his unorthodox behaviour on and off the track. Webber has been criticised for criticising other drivers and the team and reports say that Red Bull are fed up with his antics and keen to shift him away.
Porsche are believed to have offered a seat to Webber for their Le Mans second division entry next season. Elsewhere, compatriot Daniel Ricciardo is expected to fill his void to partner Sebastian Vettel.
When asked about Webber’s future, Horner said, “We’re only five races in; we’re only a quarter of the season through the championship.
“Our decisions regarding drivers will be made in the summer and Mark – if he’s delivering and motivated and has the desire to continue – of course will be a driver that we know and has achieved so much with us that we’ll consider very closely. But no decisions will be made about drivers until later in the summer.
When questioned further whether the following races are an audition for the driver or whether he had to perform under pressure knowing very well that even winning won’t help him, Horner said, “It’s probably both.”
“At the end of the day there is pressure to perform but that exists for all the drivers. Monaco is a circuit that Mark in particular enjoys and has excelled at and hopefully he can have a very strong run there.“
