Japanese Grand Prix: Practice 1 results

Jenson Button topped the first practice session of the Japanese Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton and Mark Webber second and third fastest, respectively. Mark Webber’s team mate Sebastian Vettel was only 17th fastest, but is likely to improve in the second practice session.

Completing the top 5 were the Mercedes duo of Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher in fourth and fifth places, respectively. Nico Rosberg stopped out on the track with an oil pressure problem, which didn’t allow him to complete the first practice session.

Home boy Kamui Kobayashi was sixth fastest in his Sauber. Felipe Massa ended the session seventh fastest, while his team mate Fernando Alonso was only 11th fastest. The Ferrari team have brought some new updates, and so, spent most of their morning testing them.

Force India continued their improved form, as both Paul Di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg finished inside the top 10 in 8th and 9th places, respectively.Pastor Maldanado rounded off the top 10 in his Williams.
