According to reports that emerged from Spa-Francorchamps, the Japanese Grand Prix is set to remain at Suzuka until 2018.
The circuit which is regarded as one of the most challenging in the F1 calendar is believed to have agreed a new five-year deal with the Formula One management.
The current contract between the management and the circuit runs out after this year’s race, scheduled for 13th October. Suzuka is run by the Mobilityland Corporation and though there is no Japanese driver currently competing in the Formula One, Japanese company Honda is all set to be McLaren’s new engine partner from 2015.
“It is great to see Honda back in Formula One in 2015. I am sure that the Japanese Grand Prix will attract greater attention than ever,” said Bernie Ecclestone, Formula One’s chief executive in an interview with Autosport.
Suzuka first staged a Grand Prix in 1987 and returned to the Formula One calendar in 2009, after the Japanese Grand Prix spent two years at the Fuji speedway.
