McLaren’s Jenson Button has his eyes on the F1 championship, although his start to the season hasn’t been as good as he would have wanted. The 2009 world champion is already 38 points behind the reigning champion and leader, Sebastian Vettel, while McLaren’s performances this season have been poor on the whole, their best finish being in ninth position.
Button said, “The championship is still on as far as I am concerned and I am aiming for that. Definitely”. Button was on a course for a podium finish, in Malaysia, when his final entry in to the pitstop dropped him a lap behind. He also said “It’s a massive turnaround for us. Most of the race in Sepang we were quicker than the Lotus. Most of the race we were quicker than Ferrari. Who would have thought that five days before?”
McLaren have made a major engineering upgrade to their car, and will be using it for the Chinese Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place next week.
