Jules Bianchi Interview: "Hope to get racing seat next year"

Frenchman Jules Bianchi is Force India’s reserve and test driver. His motorsports career started well, as he won the Masters of Formula 3 at Zorder in 2008. He finished third in the GP2 Championship in 2011, and in the same year test drove for the Ferrari Driver Academy before being loaned out to Force India this year. We caught up with the 23-year old for a quick chat:

Is it annoying to be a reserve driver, and not get a chance to race much?

Well, I knew my role as a reserve driver, so obviously I knew that I wouldn’t get to race on Saturdays and Sundays. So the question of me being annoyed is ruled out. The competition is tough in F1, so I am being patient. For me, it’s great to be part of an F1 team, and my aim is to help the team do well. Not to forget, I do race in practice sessions.

How would you rate Sahara Force India as an F1 team?

I think it’s great. They have really made a mark in the F1 circuit. The best thing about them is that they give youngsters like me a good chance and show faith in us. It’s a great opportunity for me to be with them and I am making the most of it. I have learned so much in these few months, its just great. They are like a family to me now.

You are a part of the Ferrari Driver Academy. Any plans of driving for them in the future?

Being signed by Ferrari was great. If they give me a chance, then yes, of course.

Your family has a rich history in motorsports. Did that inspire you to take up racing?

Yes, my grandfather was a World Champion in GT, and my great uncle was a Le Mans race champion and an F1 driver. So ever since my childhood, I was surrounded by such great racers, which is why I started karting.

What are your aims for the future?

It’s going well with the team, and I am really working hard. The season so far has been good. Hopefully we will do well in the remaining races. I am preparing myself well for the coming season, and hope to get a racing seat next year.

Do you think Paul di Resta or Nico Hulkenberg can pull off a podium finish by the end of this season?

Well, they have been doing well. It’s going to be tough, but you never know. They both have great potential.
