Kimi Raikkonen‘s manager, Steve Robertson, insists his driver still has multiple options for next year despite ruling him out of a drive at Red Bull.
Daniel Ricciardo looks set to secure the vacant seat at Red Bull in 2014 after Robertson confirmed contract talks between Raikkonen and the world champions had ended. But Roberston said that did not automatically mean his driver would be staying at Lotus next year.
“We are pretty confident that Kimi will be in F1 next year,” he told Autosport. “There are options – and that is plural – out there and I will continue to talk to teams. I am hopeful we will sort something out in the not too distant future.”
Rumours have surfaced linking Raikkonen to a return to his old team Ferrari, but the Italian team recently said it is “not giving any thought to the driver-market situation”. Lotus is still confident of retaining Raikkonen but the team has made late payments to its driver since he returned to the sport in 2012 and the Finn is likely to be seeking assurances over the team’s financial footing.
