Lotus team owner Gerard Lopez has said that Kimi Raikkonen will give importance to performance rather than money when deciding his future.
“Things are moving on. I said two months ago that as long as he gets what he wants from us – which is technical guarantees from us next year in terms of how close we are with Renault – then there is a high chance he will stay,” Lopez told Autosport.
The Finn, who returned to Formula One after a two year break, has been linked with a move away from Lotus with Red Bull and Ferrari favourites to snatch the driver.
“His main thing right now is to be sure that next year we are a top team, because there is a major change in terms of technical specifications. He does not want us to be just a customer team,” added Lopez.
McLaren also entered the race for the highly-rated Finn recently after Martin Whitmarsh revealed that he had held talks with Raikkonen. However, Raikkonen is yet to respond to any rumours regarding his future.
