Lando Norris vs Oscar Piastri: How do the two McLaren drivers compare in the 2024 F1 season?

For the first time since 2010, McLaren emerged as a real contender for the F1 World Championships, thanks to Lando Norris. While they look immensely strong for the Constructors' Title, the Driver's Championship looks shaky for Norris due to Oscar Piastri's strong presence within the team.

While the Briton has an upper hand over his Australian teammate to go against Max Verstappen for the F1 Driver's Championship, Piastri is behind by a formidable margin.

After 16 races and three Sprints, the 24-year-old emerged as the better driver between the two, both by performance and by statistics.

How do Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri compare against each other?

Qualifying: (Lando Norris 13-3 Oscar Piastri) Lando Norris has been the standout driver in terms of qualifying with an over 80 percent success rate against Oscar Piastri. Norris out-qualified Piastri by a 13-3 ratio in 16 races. While the Briton fared better in most of the races, the Australian driver had the upper hand in the Saudi Arabia GP, Japanese GP, and Monaco GP. This means that the latter was unable to get the better of the former since the Principality race.

Pole: (Lando Norris 4-0 Oscar Piastri) The 25-year-old also has a better pole position ratio against his teammate, picking up four poles against Piastri's zero. The British driver snatched poles in the Spanish GP, Hungarian GP, Dutch GP, and the recently concluded Italian GP. Piastri's best qualifying performance was P2 on multiple occasions. In a nutshell, Lando Norris' one-lap speed and performance have been better by a formidable margin.

Race Finishes: (Lando Norris 10-6 Oscar Piastri) Lando Norris' race finishes were better than Oscar Piastri's by a 10-6 ratio, making the Briton the superior one in this category by a two-thirds majority. While Piastri was able to claim six better finishes, they arrived in Hungary, where he won the race; in Austria, where Norris had a DNF; and in Italy (P2, Norris finished in P3). The other three have come in Belgium (P2, Norris finished in P5), Monaco (P2, Norris finished in P4), and Saudi Arabia, where Piastri came home in P4 against Norris' P8.

Wins: (Lando Norris 2-1 Oscar Piastri) Lando Norris raked in two victories in the Miami GP and the Dutch GP. Whereas Oscar Piastri registered his only win in Hungary. Podiums: (Lando Norris 10-5 Oscar Piastri) Lando Norris raked in 10 podiums under his belt compared to Oscar Piastri's five. The Briton claimed a podium in all races but in Belgium, Austria, Monaco, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. Oscar Piastri clinched a place on the podium in Italy, Belgium, Hungary, Austria, and Monaco.

Championship Point and Standings: (Lando Norris 241-197 Oscar Piastri) The British driver has 241 points in his tally after 16 races, whereas the man from Land Down Under has 197. Notably, the points also include points gathered from three Sprint races. Norris is placed in P2 in the Drivers' Championship, and Piastri has P4 next to his name.
