Lewis Hamilton has rated the British GP highly and stated that a win at the Silverstone circuit will be the ultimate achievement, and likened the winning to lifting the world championship.
Hamilton has the pride of being the last Briton driver to win at the Silverstone circuit, when he won in 2008, under wet conditions driving for McLaren.
With the Surrey-based team having a difficult season and Jenson Button almost ruling out his chances of a podium win, it’s all up to Hamilton to lead the British challenge and win his first race driving for Mercedes.
“Silverstone is just one of the greatest races of the year because it is your home grand prix, where you grew up and have all your home fans, it’s definitely by far the ultimate race of the year and when you win here it’s almost like winning the championship,”
“The turn-out is incredible every time we come here. When I won here in 2008 the weather was terrible and still we had an incredible crowd.
“I never thought in a million years that I would have people following me or supporting me and when I arrive here and see the support it just spurs you on. I’m sure it gives you an extra couple of tenths.” Hamilton said.
The W04 (the Mercedes car) has been harsh on it’s rear tyres especially in high speed tracks and Silverstone circuit will be no exception. So Hamilton will need every advantage he can accrue if he wants to lead the Red Bull cars.
The ticket sales has been lukewarm so far due to many factors. Some of them being the reduced expectation of a British victory, high prices and the weather which caused havoc last year at the British GP.
