Former F1 team boss Guenther Steiner feels Lewis Hamilton will not be under any kind of pressure when he moves to Ferrari as he's already achieved so much in his career. The F1 legend shocked everyone early in the season when he announced that he would be leaving Mercedes for the Italian squad.
Since Hamilton's announcement, the form for Ferrari and Mercedes has fluctuated quite a lot. At the start of the season, the Italian team held the edge and even won a couple of races. Since Canada, however, the German team has completely turned the tables on its head.
Mercedes has won the last two races, with Lewis Hamilton picking up the win in Silverstone. In all of this, Guenther Steiner was questioned if the 39-year-old would be under pressure when he goes to Ferrari next year.
The Italian team has a promising young talent in Charles Leclerc, who is rated very highly. Ferrari itself is struggling when it comes to challenging at the front. Could Llewis Hamilton be under pressure as he heads to the team? This was the question that was posed to Steiner, to which he told RacingNews365 that the F1 legend was impervious to pressure.
"I'm pretty sure he has still got that hunger and, obviously, next year going to Ferrari that will rejuvenate him as well. I think Lewis is above pressure. Put this way, in his life, he has achieved so much that he has become an icon of the sport," Steiner said.
He added:
"But he took the decision to go there. He's a seven-time world champion, he has nothing to prove. It will not be him failing Ferrari, that's my opinion. I mean, you know how Ferrari is. They have tried to win the world championship, I don't know how long. It was so long ago that I don't remember."
Lewis Hamilton's stint at Ferrari would be a challenge
Guenther Steiner did, however, claim that Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari would certainly be a challenge in many ways. The driver is leaving the team and moving to a different outfit at an advanced age and whether things would work for him or not is a major question mark. In the same interview, Steiner said:
"For sure, it's a challenge for him. And we all know that he's got a very good relationship with Fred Vasseur, that's one of the reasons he goes there. When he was younger, in the lower series, he always raced for Fred's team at the time. So they are good friends, and that will help. They will try to do it together, and I think it's a good idea."
He added:
"Will it work out? We don't know. It's a very difficult task to win a world championship, and Ferrari is always almost there, but never really there. It's one of those things at some stage. Obviously, they think that their time will come. He's signed for quite a few years to make sure he's got enough time to get it done."
Lewis Hamilton is primarily moving to Ferrari with the dream of not only winning his eighth title but making it extra special by doing it with the Italian giant.
