Lewis Hamilton finds himself in the eye of a storm following his comments to a leading British newspaper regarding the tragic skiing accident of 7-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher.
Speaking to The Telegraph ahead of the season opening Australian Grand Prix, Hamilton said that “all things happen for a reason” when asked for his views about Schumacher’s accident.
“He’s a legend in the sport, you know, who has achieved so much, a very motivated individual. So I feel like all things happen for a reason, I think that this is an experience that will really show his character and depth and even more so than any other experiences he’s had,” Hamilton said.
The comment is both bizzare and insensitive as Schumacher is battling for his life at the University of Grenoble hospital in France since that fateful December 29 day.
Schumacher’s agent Sabine Kehm confirmed few days back that the German was showing some “small, encouraging signs of improvement”.
Although Hamilton did heap praise on Schumacher, the “for a reason” comment has irked many people who took to Twitter to express their disapproval of the Brit’s words.
This is the second time that Hamilton finds himself in a soup over the Schumacher incident. He was earlier criticized heavily for posting pictures of himself on a snowmobile during a holiday just days after Schumacher’s unfortunate accident.
