Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber, who said he was struggling to stay motivated for the past two years, has said that he is using every trick in the book to stay motivated for the last seven races in his Formula 1 career.
The Australian, who is set to race in WEC for Porsche from 2014, is looking forward to ending his F1 career on a high. He said: “I’m using every trick I can to stay motivated for another few months. That’s not too much of a challenge, but you are now using all of those things to finish as strongly as possible.”
Webber hasn’t won a single race this year and is hoping to win before he quits. He said: “I’m not saying ‘let’s fast-forward the last seven races’ – I want to do bloody well, that is important to me. It would be nice to hit the middle step before the year is out and there is no reason why we can’t.”
Webber said he isn’t rethinking his decision to leave the sport, but the questions about moving on nag him.
“Having to talk about this is my 10th race, ninth race, eighth race, seventh race – it’s boring the hell out of me to be honest,” he said. “I’ve made the decision, done. I’m finished in Brazil. Thanks very much. You’re not going to finish your career if you are full of motivation and loving all aspects of the work.”
Webber says that he is looking to enjoy the remainder of the season without being under pressure. “It’s a little bit more relaxed in terms of going to enjoy the last part, grab what you can and still have an opportunity to get some really special memories if I can,” said the 9-time race winner.
