Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber believes that Ferrari signing Kimi Raikkonen is only a short-term strategy by the team before they hire three-time world champion Sebastian Vettel for 2016.
Webber, who is leaving Formula 1 to race in Endurance Championship from next year, told British broadcaster Sky: “Two years for probably both of them actually I think (meaning Alonso and Raikkonen will stay at Ferrari for two years). And then what do after that obviously pick Seb up off the back of Red Bull and then … keep moving from there.”
Earlier this week it was announced that Felipe Massa will leave Ferrari and will be replaced by 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen who’s signed a two-year contract with the Italian car manufacturers.
At Red Bull, Vettel has a contract with them which lasts until the end of the 2015 season. This along with Vettel’s desire to race for Ferrari at some point in his career backs Webber’s claims.
