Red Bull driver Mark Webber has said that he is delighted with his pole position for the Japanese Grand Prix but has termed the feat as a little bit hollow as team mate Sebastian Vettel was suffering from a KERS problem.
“Sebastian had a problem so it’s a bit of a hollow pole position and he still did a phenomenal lap. But you’ve got to take them when you can and it’s not like they hand them out. It was a bit of a mixed session in terms of predicting who was showing their hand but we did the laps when they counted and it’s very nice for me to have pole on my last attempt at Suzuka. It’s a real highlight,” he said.
Webber secured his 12th pole position of his career and his first time ahead of Vettel in the season after beating the current world champion by two-tenths of a second.
However, Webber, who is all set to leave Formula One for a career in sportscars denied the chances of him ceding his position to Vettel in the Grand Prix.
“I’ll do my race and he’ll do his race. It’s not like it’s the last race of the season. In general, we will be there for ourselves tomorrow,” Webber said.
