Ferrari team Principal Stefano Domenicali has claimed that the team is willing to retain Felipe Massa if the Brazilian delivers better results.
Massa has been on a poor run recently and the driver’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season which has raised questions about his future.
“My favorite choice would be, of course, to keep Felipe. When you look around there are not so many drivers out there that you swap and they immediately deliver,” said Domenicali.
“Felipe is a very good guy – very dedicated to the team. But, of course, we need good results from Felipe, so that’s why we will not rush as we have to make the right decision for the team,” he added.
Massa has only managed eight podiums in three and a half seasons after his last race win at the Brazilian Grand Prix in 2008. Rumors have already surfaced in the media regarding the departure of Massa, with Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen favorite to replace the Brazilian.
However, Domenicali responded neutrally when asked about the possible move of Raikkonen.
“Kimi is a very fast driver and everybody knows how I rate him. But if I make a comment now, it will be taken as a direct answer. There is no rush and we will make the right decision in the right moment,” he said.
