Max Verstappen has made it clear that it is Red Bull's priority right now to get back to form after a disastrous weekend in Monza. The Austrian team has been struggling with a poor run of form, something that has been a consequence of the team struggling to find the best balance and performance from the package. The last time the outfit won a race was in Barcelona, which was a long time ago.
In the last three races as well, Max Verstappen himself has not had the best of results, as the car has just not been able to get the results. He finished off the podium in Spa, was second in Zandvoort, and then once again in Monza, the driver couldn't even make it to the top 5.
This weekend the driver and the team head to the F1 Azerbaijan GP, where Red Bull has won every race since 2021. Max Verstappen did, however, lose to teammate Sergio Perez at this track last time around, even though that was the last time the Mexican outperformed his Dutch teammate in a race.
Looking ahead to the race in Baku, the Dutch driver shared that he had been back at the factory and on the sim during the mini-break and the team had been focused on trying to get back to form. As quoted by RacingNews365, he said,
“I have been back in the factory with the team this week and on the sim ahead of the double header. Monza was a tough race and it is our priority to get our form back to where it needs to be. We always want to be more competitive and the Team has been working hard to improve the issues we have been seeing with the car from the past few races.”
Max Verstappen looking ahead to the race in Baku
Max Verstappen said that the track brings a different kind of challenge to the plate when talking about the race in Baku. The driver has been decently successful here, as he won in 2022 and would have won in 2021 as well if not for the late race puncture. He said,
“We are now back to the flyaways with this first race returning to Baku. It is always a good challenge coming here and is an interesting track to drive, being a street circuit with long straights, so we are ready to get back racing again and see what the weekend brings.”
Max is currently 62 points ahead of Lando Norris in the championship, with the McLaren driver needing 8 points per race weekend to close the gap and beat the Red Bull driver. It will be interesting to see how both drivers approach the rest of the season, especially when it comes to their battle against each other.
