After finishing the 2013 season without a win, McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh has said that the team will have no excuses if it fails to rebound next season.
Jenson Button’s fourth place finish at the Brazilian Grand Prix turned out to be the best result of the season for the team and Whitmarsh added that the year was pretty tough in all aspects.
“It’s been a pretty tough year. We’ve had a big kick up the pants and hopefully that’s what we needed and we’re working hard to make sure we don’t need one again next year. When you have a bad year you’ve got to look at everything. We’ve got to do a better job at the circuit, we’ve got to do a better job back in Woking developing the car,” Whitmarsh told Sky Sports.
“I think Mercedes will do a pretty good job on the powertrain, so I don’t think there are excuses for us – we have to go out there and we’ve got to win next year. That’s what everyone’s focused on,” he added.
According to many pundits the fall of McLaren was a result of their more revolutionary design move with the MP4-28. And Whitmarsh believes that the team could make up next year amidst the new regulations.
