The Mercedes GP F1 team has announced that it will launch its 2013 car W04 at Jerez on February 4. The launch has gathered eyeballs, mainly due to the team’s new recruit – Lewis Hamilton – who will fill in for the retired F1 legend, Michael Schumacher. Lewis Hamilton will partner his former GP2 teammate Nico Rosberg in 2013.
The W04 launch is set to take place just a day before the first pre-season testing at Jerez, which is scheduled during Feb 5 – 8. The team, with Ross Brawn at the helm, will be hoping for a swing in fortunes from last season during which it was able to muster only one race win (Rosberg at China) and was unable to challenge Lotus Renault in the battle for the fourth spot in constructors championship. It finished 5th in 2012 with just 142 points, just 16 ahead of 6th placed Sauber (126 points).
