Corinna Schumacher, the wife of Michael Schumacher, is reportedly planning to set up a £10 million ($16.6 million) medical suite at the couple’s residence.
The seven-time Formula One champion has been in an artificially induced coma since his skiing accident in December last year. Several medical experts have declared that it is unlikely that he will ever wake up, because of which pressure for bed space may soon arise at the Grenble University Hospital in France, where Schumacher is being treated.
Further, the Schumacher family has been making 150-mile round trips every day since his accident in order to spend time with him.
To counter these issues, an Intensive Care Unit is now being built at the couple’s mansion, which is close to Lake Geneva in Switzerland. The suite would have high-tech equipment which would help keep the former Ferrari driver alive.
A family friend told The Sun: “The doctors have given it to Corinna straight. It is looking increasingly likely that any recovery from the coma will be partial and that, more likely, he will be in a permanent vegetative state for the remainder of his life. For anyone, that is a catastrophe. For someone who lived life in the fastest of lanes, you can imagine what it means to his family.”
Fox Sports quoted one of Schumacher’s family friend as saying: “Miracles happen, of course and as a wealthy man he has the best care money can buy. But all the money in the world cannot fix what has happened to him. The family are making arrangements for a future of permanent immobility.”
