According to reports, Michael Schmacher's medical files have been stolen and are being offered for sale to the media. The seven-time Formula One World Champion had gone into a state of coma after a skiing accident in December last year.
Schumacher had left the Grenoble hospital after showing signs of recovery. He was later shifted to University Hospital Lausanne in France. His medical files while at the hospital in Grenoble, have now been stolen. The files contain information about the surgical procedures carried out on the F1 legend and are now being offered for an estimated €50,000 (£40,000).
Sabine Kehm, manager of the former Ferrari racer has confirmed that the documents have been stolen. "We cannot judge if these documents are authentic. However, the documents are clearly stolen. The theft has been reported. The authorities are involved," she said. "We expressly advise that both the purchase and the publication of such documents and data is forbidden. The contents of any medical files are totally private and confidential and must not be made available to the public," confirmed Kehm.
Schumacher had retired from Formula 1 in 2012 after winning 91 races over a career spawning twenty years with teams Jordan, Benetton, Ferrari and his last employer Mercedes. The 45-year-old was on a vacation, when he hurt his head while skiing in Meribel, France. He underwent two critical operations before he slipped into a coma. He was in a state of coma from 29 December 2013, until 16 June 2014.
On the Formula 1 track, Schumi was arguably the greatest racer ever. The Two-time Laureus World Sportsman of the year holds many of Formula One's driver records, including most championships, race victories, fastest laps, pole positions and most races won in a single season - 13 in 2004 (with Ferrari).
