Italy’s regional minister Antonio Rossi has claimed that the immediate future of the Italian Grand Prix is secure despite rumours that Monza could be axed from the F1 calendar.
“The Formula One Grand Prix in Monza is untouchable. Not only because it is an engine for the economy of Brianza, but also because of Expo 2015,” the minister of Lombardy was quoted by Tuttosport.
The historic circuit was under the spotlight after reports said that it could be the victim of Bernie Ecclestone’s expansion of Formula One beyond Europe.
The minister also believes that the Autodromo Nazionale in the Villa Reale park will play a role in keeping Monza in next year’s calendar as Milan is set to host the next Universal Exposition known as Expo 2015.
