Red Bull's Max Verstappen delighted the Orange army in Spielberg as he brought himself to pole position at the Austrian GP. Following him was Lando Norris and George Russell in P2 and P3, respectively.
The Dutch driver dominated the Red Bull Ring. He won the Sprint earlier today and then went on to clinch the pole position with a 1:04.314 on the time charts. The grid seemed closely packed, as the top ten drivers were split by just 1.569 seconds.
Lando Norris will start the race from P2. He was just 0.404 seconds slower than Verstappen. George Russell finished in P3. Carlos Sainz in P4 was sandwiched between the two Mercedes as Lewis Hamilton qualified for P5.

This is also the final starting lineup of the 2024 F1 Austrian GP. Charles Leclerc's final push lap was aborted after he went wide on turn 9. Meanwhile, Red Bull's Sergio Perez did not have a new set of fresh tires on his final lap.
Max Verstappen addresses RB20's development after Austrian GP pole position
For the last few rounds, it is seemingly apparent that Red Bull do not have the fastest car. The team that won 22 of the 23 races last season have won only 7 so far of the 10. This showed that their competitors have developed massively.
However, after putting himself in pole position for the Austrian GP, Max Verstappen revealed that the car has been made more competitive by the team. He also stated that he was able to attack more into the corners because of the track temperature.
"Of course, the track is a bit warmer than yesterday so it made it trickier to drive, but the car felt a lot better for me today. I could really attack the corners a bit more, every run was on point and it was very enjoyable out there," Verstappen said in his post-qualifying interview.
"It has been a while that we have actually been on pole [for a Grand Prix] so it's great. It's a great feeling. The team has been working really hard to make the car more competitive and I think this is a great statement," he added.
This is the first time since the race in Imola earlier this season that a Red Bull has qualified for pole position. Despite that, Verstappen was able to win the Canadian and Spanish GPs. He leads the world championship and will start the Austrian GP from the front on Sunday.
