The 2024 F1 Canadian GP is already underway. The teams and drivers tested their cars on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in the first and second practice sessions on Friday (June 7). Coming into Montreal, a few teams have brought upgrades for their machines.
Previously, teams like Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, Aston Martin, Mercedes, and more brought their first major upgrade package of the 2024 F1 season. While Ferrari and McLaren tried to improve their cars to close the gap to Red Bull, Mercedes and Aston Martin worked to bridge the gap to other top teams.
In the 2024 F1 Monaco GP, Charles Leclerc had a fairy-tale of a race weekend. He won his first race on home soil after bagging pole position in the principality for the third time. The Ferrari driver kept a quick Oscar Piastri at bay and led every lap to bring home the victory.
Max Verstappen was nowhere near the top at the Monaco GP. He started the race from P6 and finished it in the same position after failing to overtake fifth-placed George Russell. Red Bull had a dull race weekend at Monte Carlo, since their world champion driver finished P6, while Sergio Perez crashed out on lap 1 with Haas' Kevin Magnussen.
Coming back to upgrades, here is a list of teams that brought new parts for the Canadian GP.
2024 F1 Canadian GP: List of upgrades
Red Bull
- Rear Wing (Performance)
- Front Corner (Reliability)
After a subpar performance at Monaco, Red Bull will be hoping to bounce back on top in Canada. However, they only brought a new rear wing to increase local load while maintaining sufficient airflow around the back of the car. They also brought a new front corner in the form of a new brake duct to tackle high braking zones at Montreal.
Mercedes
- Front suspension (Performance)
- Front Corner (Circuit Specific)
Mercedes has been trying to keep up with other top teams ever since the 2024 F1 season began. In Montreal, they brought a major change to the front suspension, realigning it to improve the airflow through the floor of the car. Similar to Red Bull, they also brought a larger brake inlet for the Canadian GP.
Aston Martin
- Beam Wing (Performance)
Since the start of the 2023 F1 season, where Fernando Alonso was surprisingly bagging podium positions, Aston Martin has been on a downward trajectory. In the 2024 F1 season, they have been trying to improve their performance as much as possible. For the Canadian GP, they brought a new beam wing to increase the load on the back.
Williams
- Front Suspension (Performance)
- Rear Suspension (Performance)
Williams completely changed the suspension system of their cars ahead of the race at Montreal. They essentially brought a shorter steering arm for the front to change the ratio of the steering wheel angle and road wheel angle. For the back, the new pull-rod suspension system brings larger ride height adjustment options and also brings the car closer to the weight limit.
Visa Cash App RB
- Rear Wing (Performance)
- Front Wing (Circuit Specific)
RB's new rear wing increases the efficiency of downforce generated at the rear while retaining the same amount of drag. Their new front wing works in tandem with the new rear wing. It reduces the overall load on the front and balances out the low-drag rear wings.

- Rear Wing (Circuit Specific)
- Beam Wing (Circuit Specific)
Sauber worked on the back of the car with the new rear and beam wing for the Canadian GP. Both of them work together with each other to alter the aerodynamic characteristics of the car for a low-drag setup.
Haas
- Front Wing (Circuit Specific)
After both Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg were involved in a major crash at the 2024 F1 Monaco GP, Haas will be trying to have a quiet race weekend at the Canadian GP. As for upgrades, the American team brought a new front wing with less camber that lowers the front load and increases its efficiency.
