2024 Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying Results: Full starting grid for the race

F1 Grand Prix of Spain - Practice
Qualifying results of the 2024 F1 Spanish Grand Prix

The qualifying session of the 2024 F1 Spanish Grand Prix came to an end as McLaren's Lando Norris topped the charts to claim pole position ahead of Max Verstappen. This is Norris' second pole position in F1.

A largely evolving asphalt at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya made the qualifying session extremely competitive for the top teams. The top five drivers were split by a little over 0.3 seconds. The gap between P1 and P9 was under a second. This close competition gave drivers a very small margin for error.

However, it was Lando Norris at the end who was able to dethrone Max Verstappen from the top of the charts and claim the pole position. His fastest lap was at 1:11.383.

Lando Norris reflects on his "perfect" pole lap at the 2024 F1 Spanish Grand Prix

The 24-year-old's pole position during the Spanish Grand Prix was unlikely, but the performance that McLaren had been delivering all weekend long did not make it impossible. Their car is arguably the fastest on the grid currently, and Lando Norris knew just how to take it to pole position.

As mentioned previously, the margin of error for the drivers was very small, as even the tiniest of mistakes would have sent the drivers down on the grid. Norris' review of his final hotlap was pretty much the same, as he claimed it to be the "perfect" one. He told the media after qualifying:

"It was pretty much a perfect lap. You know when you’re on a good lap when you’re getting excited, but the whole thing went perfectly in the end."
"So close, still, but super, super happy, one of… I think my best pole position. I’ve not had many, but out of the ones I’ve had, [this is] the best. We’ve been close all weekend, but really this was just about a perfect lap, and that’s what I did today," he added.

Norris has been racing competitively this year. Earlier, he won his maiden F1 race at the Miami Grand Prix. Now leading the grid at the start of the Spanish Grand Prix will also give him a good chance to repeat the victorious triumph.
