F1 fans were excited after Aston Martin F1 driver Fernando Alonso hinted that he was eyeing a win at the upcoming 2023 Monaco GP this weekend.
The sport will travel to Principality this week after the cancelation of the Emilia Romagna GP last week owing to heavy rainfall and floods in the area. Alonso is amongst the many drivers on the grid who are eyeing the special race to notch up their first win of the season.
The two-time world champion took to his social media platform, Twitter, to just post about the date of the race day in Monaco, tweeting:
"28/05 ."
One fan claimed that the cryptic tweet indicates Fernando Alonso's intention to win his 33rd race in Monaco as 28 and 5 added up to 33, saying:
"28+5=33. Alonso knows things."
Here are some more reactions:
"We need to improve that, but we are very good on the corners" - Fernando Alonso
The Aston Martin F1 driver mentioned that the AMR23 is not the quickest in the straights but is very good in the corners so they might run very well in tracks like Monaco, Budapest, and Singapore.
Speaking to Sky Sports' Martin Brundle, Fernando Alonso said:
“We seem to have a car that is maybe not the fastest on the straights. We need to improve that but we are very good on the corners. So, I would say that the slowest speeds of the championship, let's say Monaco, Budapest, and Singapore. These kinds of circuits, I think we put our main hopes at the moment."
The Spaniard also stated that he was doubtful ahead of making his move to Aston Martin last season, adding:
“Of course. I think, back in August, every team is optimistic for the following year. Alpine thought the car would be good and I spoke with Lawrence [Stroll] when Seb [Vettel] retired. He said we had a fantastic team and the car will be very different to what Sebastian and Lance [Stroll] are driving right now."
"I said, ‘Okay, everyone is thinking the same, but let’s see.’ It’s a coin in the air – you never know the result and you don’t have a crystal ball. But I am happy with the outcome for sure.”
It will be interesting to see if Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin are as competitive in the Principality.
