Oscar Piastri has won his first-ever Formula 1 Grand Prix in Hungary. Celebrating her son's proud moment, his mother Nicole posted a quirky message on social media.

Right from first Free Practice (FP1) session, Piastri was looking quick enough to challenge the frontrunners at the Hungaroring. The #81 McLaren driver, along with his teammate Lando Norris, was setting fast lap times around the iconic circuit. The McLaren duo even managed to claim the first row for the race, with Norris taking pole position and Piastri qualifying in P2 (+.022 behind Norris).

However, everything changed on Race Day. With the five lights going out, Piastri was able to snatch the lead from the fast-charging Max Verstappen and his teammate on turn 1. From there it seemed like a straightforward win, until the second round of pit stops. Norris was able to undercut Piastri for the lead.

However, after a long intervention from the team, the British driver conceded the place to his young Australian teammate on Lap 68. This move from Norris allowed Piastri to win his first career win after just 35 races.

Nicole Piastri, Oscar's mother, sent out a congratulatory message to his son on X. Here's a look at the post, captioned:

On the back of a successful first season in Formula 1 in 2023 (9th place in the drivers' championship), Oscar Piastri began the 2024 season with a positive outlook. He has showcased his racecraft in the 13 races so far this year.

Piastri began the year with an 8th-place finish in the season-opening Bahrain GP. After analyzing the data from the race, McLaren and Piastri began making improvements from the Saudi Arabian GP onwards. Piastri finished five of the next six races in the top 10 (fourth in Saudi Arabia, fourth in Australia, eighth in Japan, eighth in China, and fourth in Emilia Romagna).

However, with McLaren bringing in critical updates in Miami, Piastri began showing a better race pace overall. The young Australian surprised everyone in Monaco and Austria, finishing P2 behind Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Mercedes-AMG's George Russell, respectively.

Now, in the season's 13th outing, Piastri has managed to win his first-ever Grand Prix at Hungaroring. With 21 races to go in the season, we can expect the Melbourne-based racer to grab podium places more often, making the championship race more interesting for fans worldwide.
