Red Bull's $6 million Hypercar, designed by Adrian Newey, has reportedly been sold out shortly after its launch. Newey was able to shift his focus primarily on the car after announcing his exit from the team earlier.
The RB17 was unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England on Friday. The Hypercar is a blend of luxury and technology, boasting enough power to break through 350 kph. The aerodynamics of the hypercar have been worked on with extreme perfection and research. The design of the car in itself is a beauty to look at.
Red Bull had revealed that only 50 units of the exhilarating hypercar will be produced. According to the German publication Auto Motor und Sport, the car is already sold out, and the production of the remaining units will begin soon. The sales are expected to generate over $310 million in revenue.
The level of performance and handling will nearly match that of Formula 1. It is powered by a 4.5-litre V10 engine (naturally aspirated) which produces over 1000 horsepower, revving at 15,000 RPM. The extreme use of carbon fiber has made the RB17 a very light car, allowing it to break the 350 km/h barrier with ease.
This is set to be Adrian Newey's final project before he leaves Red Bull in 2025. He has worked for the team for close to two decades. Having joined in 2006, he was a major part of the two dominant spells the team experienced.
While he has decided to move on from the team, his next move remains a large speculation on the grid. His understanding of cars and their aerodynamics makes him an asset for any team.
Adrian Newey reportedly rejects Ferrari as Aston Martin and McLaren speculations rise
Ferrari was the first team other than Red Bull to win a Grand Prix this season. Dominating Monaco, Ferrari then secured their second Grand Prix win this season, breaking Red Bull's early streak. While they initially emerged as Red Bull's closest competitor, other teams have since closed the gap.
Adrian Newey was linked with the Maranello-based outfit, with multiple reports even claiming that the two had come to a final deal. However, according to Motorsport Italy, those conversations have faded, and the 65-year-old is looking for other teams on the grid.
Aston Martin and McLaren have emerged as frontrunners. McLaren boasts the fastest car on the grid this season, while Aston Martin might be offering more than just financial incentives. No official confirmation has come from any team or Newey himself.
