An emotional Daniel Ricciardo gets teary-eyed after the Singapore Grand Prix - “Just wanted to savour the moment”

An Emotional Daniel Ricciardo in Singapore

Daniel Ricciardo might have raced for the final time in F1 at Singapore (at least for this year). The Australian driver is heavily rumoured to be replaced by New Zealand's Liam Lawson for the remainder of the season. Lawson, who replaced Ricciardo last season after the latter broke his hand in the Dutch Grand Prix will partner Yuki Tsunoda.

Honeybadger finished the race in P18 ahead of the retired Alex Albon and Kevin Magnussen. However, he might also have gifted Max Verstappen a prestigious point by recording the fastest lap in the final run of the Singapore Grand Prix. Lando Norris held the fastest lap before Ricciardo and the former McLaren driver certainly did not do his ex-team any favours.

The RB driver talked about recent reports of his future post-race and got visibly teary-eyed while giving the interview.

Daniel Ricciardo said:

"A lot of emotions. Look, I'm aware it could be it and yeah, I think it's also just exhausted after the race, so there's so much, I don't know like a flood of many emotions and feelings and exhaustion."

He continued:

"The cockpit is something that I got very used to for many years (stutters), and yeah, just wanted to savour the moment."

Max Verstappen thanks 'old pal' Daniel Ricciardo for his assist in Singapore

Former teammate Max Verstappen thanked Daniel Ricciardo for helping him in his title fight against Lando Norris. The Australian's adventurous bid for fastest lap in the final lap was much appreciated by current champion Verstappen.

The Dutchman was informed about the Honeybadger's heroics on the radio by Gianpiero Lambiase:

"Your old pal Daniel got the fastest lap at the end there aswell."

Max Verstappen replied:

"Thank you Daniel."

Daniel Ricciardo might never race in F1 again, but he joked about ensuring himself a nice Christmas present if Verstappen won the league by 1 point.

The 35-year-old said:

"If Max wins the championship by a point then I have guaranteed myself a nice Christmas present."

Lando Norris dominated in the Singapore Grand Prix, but there is still a long way to go if he wants to win the championship against Max Verstappen. With 6 races remaining in the season, it will be interesting to see how McLaren curate their game plan against Red Bull and Max.

More importantly, Red Bull's response to McLaren's dominance will also be closely monitored. Will Daniel Ricciardo be sacked? Will Perez get demoted? Till will tell in 4 weeks in the upcoming United States Grand Prix at Austin.
