IndyCar driver Felix Rosenqvist slammed the media for being 'biased' while assessing the Max Verstappen and Lando Norris clash at the Austrian GP on Sunday. The Red Bull driver collided with the young Brit on Lap 64 of the race while defending his race lead at the Red Bull Ring.
The three-time world champion was having a very smooth race in Spielberg after he stretched to a race lead of over seven seconds from Norris after the two pit stops. However, his lead was cut down to a couple of seconds owing to an uncharacteristic slow stop from the Red Bull crew giving the advantage to the McLaren driver, who pitted at the same time and came out on new mediums.
For the next phase of the race, Lando Norris was unrelenting in his bid to get the race win and put in several unsuccessful dive bombs. There was some questionable difference from the end of Max Verstappen as well as he seemingly moved under breaking on more than one occasion.
The collision between the duo proved to be terminal for the McLaren driver as he retired from the race due to the damage from it while Verstappen finished the race in P5. Many publications such as Motorsport.com put the blame firmly on Max Verstappen and claimed that the Dutch driver hadn't changed his tactics or driving since his epic tussle with Lewis Hamilton in 2021.
McLaren IndyCar driver Felix Rosenqvist on his Instagram Stories shared the opinion piece written by Alex Kalinauckas for the British website and pointed out:
"And the media also hasn't changed from being biased."
Red Bull team advisor gives his take on the Max Verstappen-Lando Norris clash
Red Bull team advisor Helmut Marko stated that he wasn't the biggest fan of the way Lando Norris 'behaved' on his team radio after the collision with Max Verstappen.
Speaking with OE24, the Austrian said (via RacingNews365):
"It was pathetic how Norris behaved on the radio. But these things happen and I would write it off as a racing accident, although more likely Norris went over his limits."
He added:
"Norris' comment that Max should apologize doesn't really help. But they will meet for a chat. Normally they fly together, but this time they traveled separately. So Max [Verstappen] had a quiet return flight."
Lando Norris was fuming after the race as he told several media publications that he would lose respect for his friend and rival Max Verstappen if the latter failed to take the blame for the incident and talk to him about it.
While the Dutch driver initially mentioned that he believed that he left enough room for the young British driver on the track, he later stated that he would talk to the 24-year-old when things had cooled down.
