Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton set social media blaze after he posted for the first time since joining the Italian team for the 2025 season. The seven-time F1 world champion surprised everyone by making an announcement of his move to the Maranello-based outfit last year in February, thus ending his 12-year association with Mercedes.
The British driver had been linked to a move to Ferrari prior to signing his most recent contract with the German team in August 2023. However, he decided to continue with the Brackley-based outfit for a couple more years. He eventually ended up activating his release clause one year into his contract to make a switch to Ferrari.
Recently, Hamilton took to LinkedIn to post for the first time as a Ferrari driver, sending fans into raptures as he got almost 22k reactions and over 1.3k comments on it.
"I could not be more excited for the year ahead. Moving to Scuderia Ferrari, there’s a lot to reflect on. To anyone considering their next move in 2025: embrace the change. Whether you're switching industries, learning a new skill, or even just taking on new challenges, remember that reinvention is powerful.
"Your next opportunity is always within reach. Here’s to 2025—a year of embracing new opportunities, staying hungry, and driving forward with purpose. Let’s make it one to remember. Andiamo," he wrote.
Former F1 driver gives his take on Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari
Former F1 driver Felipe Massa stated that he would possibly not have hired Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari due to his 'age' as it could be a problem.
Speaking with Brazilian outlet Estadao, the former Ferrari driver spoke about the physical toll on the body as the driver gets older and reflected on if he would have hired Hamilton despite all his experience, saying:
“If you asked me if I would hire Hamilton, as the head of Ferrari, as a driver, yes, I would, without a doubt. Because of the talent he has – he is one of the most incredible drivers in F1. But because of his age, maybe not, if you look at the sport, age matters.
"And we have to understand how much age is weighing on him in this situation or not. It’s much harder to recover physically after a difficult race or an intense training session. Age takes its toll in some areas, that’s normal. Age is something that has weighed negatively on several drivers, as it did for Schumacher.”
Hamilton has signed a multi-year contract with the Italian team that would see him partner alongside Charles Leclerc, at least until the end of the 2026 season.
Given that he would enter the fourth decade of his life later in January, it would be fascinating to see if he would extend his contract with the team moving forward.
