Lawrence Stroll-owned Aston Martin has managed to poach Ferrari's key technical personnel, Enrico Cardile. Cardile has left his position as the Italian outfit's Technical Director of Chassis and Aerodynamics with immediate effect.

With a degree in aeronautical engineering, Cardile joined the Scarlet Red team in 2005 as an aerodynamicist, working on a GT Championship-related project. Impressed with his work, Ferrari moved him to the Formula 1 team as the Head of Aero Development in 2016.

The Italian aero expert gradually moved up the ladder, eventually ending up as Ferrari's Technical Director of Chassis and Aerodynamics in 2023.

Rumors about Cardile moving to Aston Martin began circulating a few weeks ago. Now, on the back of a dismal British Grand Prix weekend, Scuderia Ferrari has officially announced the departure of their prized aerodynamicist with immediate effect.

With no one to replace Cardile, Team Principal Fred Vasseur will be overseeing his duties on an interim basis.

The news was confirmed via an X post by a renowned F1 News and Analysis page. Here's a look at the post, captioned:

Cardile's exit is most likely prompted by the lack of adequate performance seen in Ferrari's 2024 challenger, the SF-24. Despite bringing in crucial upgrades, the race car seems to lack aero performance to challenge the likes of Red Bull Racing, McLaren and the vastly improved Mercedes-AMG.

Enrico Cardile's exit reignites the rumors of Red Bull Racing's Adrian Newey joining Ferrari

In May 2024, the entire Formula 1 world was shocked by the announcement of the iconic aerodynamicist Adrian Newey leaving Red Bull Racing at the end of the 2024 season. Since then, all teams began efforts to rope in F1's top aero expert.

Ferrari has been leading the pack to lure Newey onto their squad. As reported by PlanetF1.com, Newey’s manager Eddie Jordan confirmed that the British engineer is yet to decide which team to join next year.

However, the sudden departure of Enrico Cardile, Ferrari's Technical Director of Chassis and Aerodynamics, has likely reignited the rumors of Newey joining the Scarlet Red team soon. Apart from Cardile, Ferrari's Chief Designer Simone Resta has also departed the legendary team to join Mercedes-AMG.

There have also been some major positive changes in the Italian team. Mercedes-AMG's Loic Serra and Jerome D'Ambrosio are set to become a part of Ferrari this October. The former will join as the Head of Chassis Performance Engineering, while the latter will assume duty as Ferrari's Deputy Team Principal.

However, the biggest development for the 'Prancing Horse' this season happens to be the acquisition of seven-time Formula 1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton. The 39-year-old Briton is set to join the team in 2025.
