McLaren driver Lando Norris assessed that his season with a competitive car has "not been good enough" so far and is considering reviewing his performances. The team has delivered a powerful car letting their drivers bag in two wins before the summer break.
The Woking-based outfit has had the fastest car on the grid on several occasions, beating the competition from Red Bull and Ferrari multiple times. Despite this, both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have won one race each. While they continue to extend their lead from Ferrari in the Constructors' World Championship, Norris feels that he has work to do in the summer break.
Speaking to Sky Sports about the summer break, Norris said:
"I mean, two things. One, it's just a fresh mindset, just almost just trying to reset a little bit. But two is reviewing, reviewing our season so far".
"It's been incredible. But from my side, not being good enough. And I'll do what I can already yesterday, today, tomorrow."
At the same time, Lando Norris also feels that he needs to work on his performance. He claimed that he made "too many" mistakes which led to him losing a potential victory in the races.
"When we come back before Zandvoort, all time and even during the summer holiday, time where I can review and kind of reflect on my good things."
"And also the things that I need to and have to improve if I want to be a contender. Because at the minute, simply, I don't have what it takes because I've clearly made too many mistakes."
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri prioritize constructors' championship in 2024
Red Bull is not in a dominant shape this season. Although they managed to build a considerable lead in the World Championship, McLaren is closing the gap down.
Talking about the team's goal of the season Oscar Piastri revealed that they are targeting the Constructors' championship. Speaking to Sky Sports, the Australian driver said:
"The first objective is to win the constructors' for the team and I think we've got a very strong chance of doing that. We've been closing the gap to Red Bull in the last six or seven races."
Norris also revealed his plans for the season as he aims to finish ahead in the Drivers' World Championship.
"I think for me, the drivers' standings, of course I'd like to finish as high as I can. I'm not not out of the running for the championship myself, it's a very big ask, but I want to string together good races, build consistency on that front, and really help the team to win the constructors'."
Both Norris and Piastri have been racing competitively in the season so far. They have managed to outscore Ferrari in multiple races, and consistent development could lead them to challenge Red Bull in the second half of the season.
