Kyle Larson recently made an eyebrow-raising claim when he compared himself to Max Verstappen. Larson said that he was better than the F1 star in all disciplines, except for open-wheel racing, a statement that did not go well with fans online.
Verstappen's link with NASCAR is not new, courtesy of his partner Kelly Piquet's sister Julia Piquet being the wife of NASCAR driver, Daniel Suarez. However, his latest connection with America's premier form of motorsport has taken fans aback. Speaking to "Flo Racing" recently, the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Champion said,
"I know I’m better than him [Max Verstappen]. Maybe not in an open-wheel IndyCar or Formula 1 car, but that’s one discipline. I think I would beat him in everything else. You can quote that."

Besides being a NASCAR Cup Series Champion, Kyle Larson is also well-versed in several racing disciplines such as Sprint Cars, Dirt Midgets, and Dirt Late Models. His expertise in the American racing series is unquestionable.
However, his comparison with the three-time Formula 1 champion who reigned supreme in the last two F1 seasons did not sit well with the fans on social media. Having won 51 out of the last 80 Grand Prix races, Max Verstappen is statistically the most successful driver in recent times.
While the driver is entitled to his opinion, fans believed otherwise and called Larson out on social media and questioned his racing skills.
"Big talk for someone who’s never turned right in his racing career," a fan wrote.
"Haha don’t make us laugh pal Verstappen is a GOAT level driver yet you drive a car around oval tracks," another fan wrote.
Another fan seemed to compare Larson's quality with Logan Sargeant, who is currently struggling for form.
"LMAOOOOO. He's not even better than Logan Sargeant. Quote that," they claimed.
Comparing F1 and NASCAR tracks, a fan added,
"Kyle is a funny guy who only knows how to drive an oval track," the fan said.
"Kyle may beat Verstappen on left turns, but not on right turns," another fan claimed.
"Everyone wants to be better than Max. This is in dreams," another fan added.
Notably, NASCAR does not just race on oval tracks. In the 2024 NASCAR season, they have five road courses in the calendar.
