Susie Wolff wished her husband, Toto Wolff, a happy birthday with a cute message on social media. As the Mercedes team principal turned 53 on January 12, Susie called him a 'brilliant husband' and expressed her profound love.
CEO and team principal Wolff has been the backbone of the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team since joining management in 2013. He previously worked with Williams Racing. In an interesting move, Wolff and Niki Lauda convinced F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton to switch from McLaren. The skeptical transfer turned into a historic association as Mercedes won eight constructors championships in the last decade.
Meanwhile, on January 12, 2025, the Austrian team boss turned 53. On the eve of his birthday, his wife and managing director of the F1 Academy, Susie Wolff, posted a sweet wish on social media.
She shared a mushy picture and captioned it as:
"Cause all of me loves all of you. Happy Birthday, my Brilliant Husband ❤️."
Mercedes also released a special video for the team boss (who is worth $1.6 Billion as per Forbes) featuring the drivers' lineup for the 2025 season. George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli hilariously wished Wolff a happy birthday.
Susie Wolff and Toto Wolff have been married since 2011. They have a son named Jack. The couple dealt with a tough time in 2023 when the FIA opened an investigation against Susie, stating a conflict of interest. The FIA accused the F1 academy boss of sharing confidential information with her husband.
However, due to a lack of evidence, the F1 governing body dropped the investigation. All nine teams on the grid released a statement to confirm that they hadn't lodged a complaint against the Wolff family.
Susie Wolff, hurt by FIA's actions, filed a criminal lawsuit against FIA in March 2024. This led to a serious debate where drivers and senior officials called for transparency and accountability from the FIA.
Toto Wolff reveals signing Kimi Antonelli to avoid same mistake involving Max Verstappen
Mercedes bid farewell to seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton after the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as the latter moves to Scuderia Ferrari in a historic driver transfer. While the Silver Arrows were stunned at first, Toto Wolff chose 18-year-old rookie driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli as Hamilton's replacement.
Explaining the idea behind the move in podcast appearance with Armchair Experts, Wolff said: (via GP Blog)
"We had this 17-year-old [Antonelli] in the pipeline. I didn’t want to miss out on him like I did with Max back in the day. I didn’t have a car [for Verstappen]. So that is all falling into place. I didn’t want to make the decision, as Mercedes, letting the greatest champion ever go." [via GP Blog]
Toto Wolff did pursue Max Verstappen in 2024 after Red Bull hit a rough patch. However, the Dutchman's loyalty and faith in Red Bull closed the ambitious doors for Mercedes.
