F1 pundit Karun Chandhok recently stated that booing Max Verstappen for winning the 2023 F1 US GP was not acceptable. The Red Bull driver did not get the best reception when he stood on the top step of the podium in Austin and received his trophy.
Since many fans have been complaining about the lack of competition at the front of the grid, they have often channeled their frustration towards Verstappen. Even though the Dutchman is simply doing his job and performing as well as he can, he has not always received the best reception at a few venues.
Karun Chandhok posted on his official X account that disrespecting a driver by booing their hard work to win races is absolutely not acceptable. He wrote:
"Booing is pathetic…"
Despite some fans booing him from the stands during the podium celebration, the smile on Max Verstappen's face did not fade since he was now used to it and simply celebrated with his team.
Apart from Austin, the Red Bull star has even been booed in other European and Middle Eastern races as well.
Max Verstappen on how hard it is to maintain track limits on F1 tracks
The Dutchman and other drivers are usually plagued with loads of track limit warnings and penalties on certain tracks. He recently challenged anyone to drive his car and try to stay within track limits while pushing hard for the fastest laps.
Later on, he went on to explain how drivers need to tip-toe around the track and not enjoy the thrill of pushing simply because of the track limits. Speaking at the press conference prior to the United States GP, Verstappen stated:
“I will happily let anyone else drive my car, see if they can do better with track limits. Some tracks, yeah, just a lot of runoff, so naturally you are a bit… you find probably the limits a bit easier because we never really talk about track limits, for example, in Suzuka and that’s probably a bit more of an old-school track.”
Verstappen continued:
“The latest kind of track standards, they have a thing to do with it and it’s a bit of a shame. I feel like with some of these new tracks that you’re more focused on a quality lap to not go over a white line than actually finding the limit or just the pure enjoyment of pushing. It’s more like you’re looking at: ‘Did I make it or not?’ Oh, yeah, I made it.'”
At the 2023 F1 US GP qualifying session, Max Verstappen's fastest lap time was deleted due to track limits and he was demoted to sixth.
