F1 fans expressed their disappointment over McLaren driver Lando Norris' claim that he was a bit 'unlucky' after losing the lead at the 2024 Brazilian GP and finishing in P6. Despite starting from pole position, the British driver was unable to make the most of his advantage as he lost out to Max Verstappen in the championship lead.
Norris lost his lead from the line to George Russell, who was also starting from the front row. Lando was unable to pass the Mercedes driver in the first phase of the race and made the pitstop just before the red flag stoppage, which demoted him to P5 after challenging for the lead.
In his interview with Sky Sports, Lando Norris described his Sunday afternoon as a "tough day", saying:
"Sometimes it's just unlucky, rules go against you. Yeah difficult day, I made a couple of mistakes. It cost me against George and against Charles but yeah nothing more. It was a tough day, I did my best I had a lot of good races, it was about time something didn’t go right,” Norris said.
F1 fans took to social media to give their reactions to Lando Norris's comments on X (formerly Twitter), with one fan claiming:
"Bro you bottle every. single. start. The whole paddock laughs when you get pole because they know you won't hold p1 for 10 seconds. You've had the fastest car for 3/4 of the year, yet the only one you are fighting is yourself," the fan wrote.
"Not wc material," another fan added.
"Skill issue," a fan wrote.
Here are some more fans giving their reactions to Lando's comments following his underwhelming outing at the Brazilian GP:
"Lando is a Joke. Has the best car and he just keeps making mistakes. Max Starts P17 and wins the Race. Lando starts from Pole, gets beat by Russell at the start, and finishes P6. Max OWNS Lando," a fan said.
"I thought Lewis was a crybaby, but Lando is a twin crybaby," wrote another.
"He bottled it in the fastest car," another fan claimed.
Lando Norris comments on losing out at the red-flag stoppage
McLaren driver Lando Norris was critical of the rule of changing tires and providing free pitstops to drivers during the red flag stoppage after he lost out massively during the Brazilian GP.
Speaking with F1.com, the 24-year-old said:
“Yeah, you can change the tires under the red flag, that’s what the others did. Just unlucky. Unfortunately, sometimes it just goes your way, so nothing we did wrong," Norris said.
Reiterating his criticism of the red flag, the McLaren driver eventually seemed to chalk it off as an 'unlucky' outing.
“I don’t care what people say, staying out was not the right thing to do, it shouldn’t have been red-flagged but obviously that was the crash in the end that caused the red. That’s life sometimes – you take a gamble, that has paid off for them. It’s not talent, it’s just luck. [We were] a bit unlucky, that’s all,” he added.
Lando Norris now trails Max Verstappen by 62 points in the standings with three races and one Sprint remaining in the 2024 season.
