Max Verstappen, currently on a four-year title-winning streak, has been one of the fastest and most talented drivers to hit the grid in recent years. While the Dutchman is believed to have unleashed the beast inside him, his father Jos says his son has perhaps reached maximum potential.
Verstappen made his debut as the youngest driver in F1, and as he matured, he proved why he was rated highly during his junior days. The 27-year-old beat seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in 2021 to clinch his maiden championship and followed it with three back-to-back titles.
In the 2024 season, Verstappen faced a significant threat from Lando Norris. However, he backed himself to become a four-time world champion. Last year, he won 19 of the 22 races on the calendar. This year, though, he settled for nine race wins.
Max Verstappen's dad Jos was asked to share his thoughts on whether his son has some hidden potential left to unleash. Speaking to ViaPlay, he replied:
"Well, you would say, isn't it? I mean, he's definitely on his best. And I don't know if there's more in it or not. I have no idea. I mean, it seems like he's there when he needs to be there. He's strong in the crucial moments. So, I think that's so important to do."
Verstappen was Red Bull's lone warrior in the 2024 season, as his teammate, Sergio Perez, failed to win a single race. He secured multiple podiums in the first half before witnessing a dire run after the summer break. Following the conclusion of the Abu Dhabi GP, Red Bull sacked Perez to announce Liam Lawson as Verstappen's teammate for the 2025 season.
Juan Pablo Montoya casts doubt on Max Verstappen's championship bid in 2025
Colombian racing driver Juan Pablo Montoya fears Max Verstappen won't win his fifth championship in 2025 as he is not the favorite to become a world champion again. Montoya blamed the RB series, saying the car lacks the speed to compete for a title. Talking to Marca, he said:
"I think it will be very difficult. Unless Red Bull makes a big move next year, I think it will be very difficult for Max Verstappen to become."
Verstappen had previously flagged concerns about the RB20's instability and lack of speed. He believes if the fundamental issues are not fixed, winning a title next year could be an impossible task.
