Ferrari F1 driver Carlos Sainz's girlfriend Rebecca Donaldson stared smiling at the Spanish driver during one of his post-race interviews after his win at the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix. The Spaniard seemed in full control of the main race on Sunday after starting from pole position despite losing the lead to Max Verstappen at the start. The 30-year-old overtook the Red Bull driver after the safety car restart, maintaining a gap from his teammate Charles Leclerc and thwarting McLaren's Lando Norris' late charge.
Donaldson, who has dated Sainz since mid-2023, looked on in delight as her boyfriend discussed his win.
Sainz was in a long-term relationship with Isabel Hernaez from 2017 to 2023. He was first spotted with Donaldson in Milan, Italy. They went on vacation in the Bahamas later, helping confirm their relationship.
Carlos Sainz discusses his "emotional" win at the Mexican Grand Prix
Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz said in his post-race press conference that his Sunday victory in Mexico City was "emotional". It was the fourth of his career and second this year after Melbourne.
"It was extremely emotional. I did shed a tear, you know, in the Spanish anthem. Yeah, for sure it's one of the best moments in my career," Carlos Sainz said. "My mum had never been present for a race win with me, and with the fact that she was coming here this weekend, I wanted really to win a race in front of her. And yeah, on top of that, the way the whole weekend was planned out, it was just perfect.
And, you know, with that move, losing at the start and then having to fight back with Max just made everything a bit more tricky. Probably makes it taste even better because I had to work hard for it. And to do this weekend in front of all of them was incredible."
Sainz further reflected on the Mexican's crowd support and said:
"The podium was amazing. I had never been on the podium in Mexico, and I must say it's one of the best of the season for sure with the atmosphere there is and how passionate the Mexican fans are."
Sainz has four races and two Sprints to extend his win tally before joining the Grove-based Williams F1 next year.
