Fans reacted after Sergio Perez qualified at P8, six positions below his teammate Max Verstappen, during the F1 Spanish GP. He also has a three-place grid penalty for the race after an incident during the Canadian GP.

Sergio Perez's string of disappointing performances seemed to continue after the qualifying session of the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix. At the end of the session, he was P8, while his teammate qualified for P2. It is important to note that the Mexican's final lap was aborted to give Verstappen the slipstream. This was because Perez has a three-place grid penalty for unsafe driving in Canada.

Users on social media weren't too pleased with Perez's performance, which was in contrast to Max Verstappen's. Given his overall form in the recent races, the fans were not happy and took sarcastic digs at the driver.

"classic checo disasterclass," a user wrote.
"Checo being exposed here. When the top four teams are that close to each other, he is at the bottom of the pile. Not good enough," claimed another user.
"And checo was extended because?" A fan said, questioning his contract extension.

Some of the users claimed that the team was favoring Max Verstappen by providing him with a better car.

"Give Checo Pérez a better car," another wrote.

Can Red Bull lose the constructor's title despite Max Verstappen's successful stint?

Red Bull has dominated the past two seasons with Verstappen and Perez. Both drivers, in an extremely efficient car, were able to bring home the driver's and constructor's world championships in both 2022 and 2023. The team was seemingly ahead of the grid at the start of this season as well, but the situation is changing.

McLaren and Ferrari are on the charge. Both teams have shown excellent development and have managed to win races as well. While Max Verstappen still leads the world championship by a huge margin, Ferrari is closing up on the constructor's title.

Currently, there is a 49-point gap between the two teams. Part of the reason is Sergio Perez's recent performance in the races. He finished P8 in Imola, followed by two consecutive DNFs in Monaco and Canada. In addition, he qualified for P8 in the Spanish Grand Prix.

If his performance does not improve over the course of the season, and both Ferrari and McLaren continue to develop at this progressive pace, there is a possibility that Red Bull might lose the constructor's championship. It is also evident that they do not have the fastest car on the grid currently.
