As per the latest developments, Aston Martin is all set to announce the signing of Adrian Newey. The British team reportedly agreed on a five-year deal with the revered aerodynamicist for a reported £30 million a year.
According to a report from BBC, Aston Martin will make the announcement ahead of next weekend's Azerbaijan Grand Prix at Baku. With this, the Newey saga, which started after the Briton hinted at his exit from Red Bull in May this year, may potentially come to an end.
After a prolonged two-horse race between Aston Martin and Ferrari, Lawrence Stroll's team have reportedly managed to secure Newey's services. However, the British engineer initially turned down the Racing Green outfit back in May during the 2024 Miami Grand Prix, but they turned the table within 10 Grand Prix weekends.
Newey will join former Mercedes engine chief Andy Cowell, who will be a part of Aston Martin from October 1, 2024, and drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll. Interestingly, Aston Martin already has Dan Fallows working for them as their technical director. Fallows worked under Newey at Red Bull for 15 years before leaving the Milton-Keynes-based team in 2022.
With the contract agreement, Adrian Newey reported to become co-owner of Aston Martin
As reported by "The Times", Adrian Newey's move to Aston Martin for the upcoming season can also see him become a co-owner of the British team. As a result, one can expect him to have immense autonomy at the Silverstone-based team.
Adrian Newey is the most decorated F1 engineer in the history of the sport. The aero wizard has nearly four decades of working experience in Formula 1 and amassed 25 Titles (12 Constructors' Championships and 13 Drivers' Titles) with Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull.
Newey's importance under the Ground Effect era is impeccable, as Red Bull was mighty dominant following the introduction of new regulations in 2022. Surprisingly, Christian Horner and Company began to struggle since his departure was announced recently.
