F1 photographer and insider Kym Illman claimed that Daniel Ricciardo could return to the sport as he believed the fellow Aussie's time in the sport has not ended just yet. The eight-time race winner was let go by the Visa Cash App RB F1 team after the Singapore Grand Prix last weekend having returned to the team in Hungary in 2023.
The Austrailian driver had set a target for himself to return to the main team, Red Bull, in 2025 and race alongside Max Verstappen, but was unable to do so with the Austrian team retaining the services of Sergio Perez for the remainder of the 2024 season.
With his exit from the RB, many in the paddock including drivers have assumed that it might have all over in F1 for Daniel Ricciardo. Still, while appearing on the Australian news channel Network 10's chat segment, The Project, Illman claimed there could be a 'twist' regarding the 35-year-old's future in F1 and said:
"All I'll say is there might be a twist... It's a long shot but there could be a twist.. I can't say anymore but I'm not 100% sure if the door is closed. Trust me it will get back to the people... but there could be a twist. We will know in weeks," Kym said.
Neither the Milton-Keynes outfit nor Daniel Ricciardo has made any comments on Kym Illman's claims about a possible return to F1.
Liam Lawson gives his take on Daniel Ricciardo's exit from F1
Liam Lawson said that he did not feel 'good' throughout the Singapore GP weekend as he was aware of the situation revolving around Daniel Ricciardo.
Speaking with Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking Breakfast, the Kiwi, who will take over Ricciardo's seat for the remainder of the season, said (as quoted by ESPN):
"Not good, honestly. Singapore was definitely not an enjoyable weekend for me, because we all knew what was coming," Lawson said.
Lawson also delved into his dynamic with the eight-time race winner and said:
"Daniel has always been very good to me in a lot of ways when I drove last year. Even this season, I've never felt in competition with him or anything like that. It wasn't a nice feeling [in Singapore],"Lawson said.
The young driver then looked ahead for the season and brushed upon how Ricciardo told him to make the most of the opportunity he was given on the grid.
"But obviously this, for me... I get one shot at F1, and it's come now and I'm obviously grateful for that and I need to take it with both hands. He said the same to me. He said, 'You need to make the most of it.' He did a very good job at the weekend, honestly. I have a huge amount of respect for how he dealt with everything," he added.
Liam Lawson had initially deputized for the Aussie after the latter broke his hand in Zandvoort last year and drove for then AlphaTauri for five races that impressed the Red Bull hierarchy enough to give him another shot in F1.
