Visa Cash App RB driver Daniel Ricciardo's girlfriend Heidi Berger shared a post of Driver of the Day at the end of the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, September 22. Amid speculations throughout the weekend, the race under the lights of the Marina Bay Circuit might turn out to be the Aussie's farewell from F1.
The 35-year-old is touted to lose his seat and make way for Liam Lawson from the upcoming US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, next month until the end of the 2024 season. Ricciardo took over the seat at the Faenza-based outfit in Hungary in 2023, replacing Nyck de Vries, in a bid to get back to Red Bull but failed to do so owing to his inconsistent performances.
Daniel Ricciardo potentially bowed out of the sport after taking the fastest lap from Lando Norris on the penultimate lap to cap off his career and was even given the Driver of the Day vote by fans.
Heidi Berger, who has been dating the eight-time winner since 2020, shared F1's post on her Instagram story. While she was not present at the track, the daughter of the former F1 driver Gerhard Berger made sure to pay tribute to the Honey Badger on social media.
While speaking about his fastest lap to F1.com, Daniel Ricciardo claimed that he expected a present from former Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen for taking a point off his title rival Lando Norris. He said:
“At the end we were there, not really in any position, so we tried to go for fastest lap and I guess it helped maybe Max out by Abu Dhabi. Maybe there’s a Christmas present coming if he wins by a point!”
Daniel Ricciardo reacts to rumors of his potential exit from F1
RB driver Daniel Ricciardo stated that he was 'at peace' with the feeling of leaving F1 with reports of his impending exit looms at the end of the Singapore GP.
He told F1.com:
“I do feel, let’s say, at peace with it. At some point, it’ll come for all of us… I think also, I tried to get back into Red Bull, but it didn’t work out, so then I also have to say, ‘Okay, what else am I ultimately doing here and trying to achieve?’
"Let’s say maybe the fairytale ending didn’t happen, but I also have to look back on what it’s been. Fourteen or so years and I’m proud. I think when you’ve experienced the highs of winning, you can only fight for P10 for so long. There is nothing like that feeling, and if that no longer is possible, and if it is becoming a little harder – that’s the truth," he added.
Daniel Ricciardo scored 12 points in the 2024 season, with his P4 finish in the Sprint race in Miami and a fighting P8 in Montreal being the standout of the year.
